About Rebecca

Rebecca Chilvers is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist based in London with over 2 decades experience working in the NHS and the independent sector helping families and healthcare professionals and those in high pressure industries through challenging times. She specialises in neonatal care, working at a regional and national level. She has been an expert advisor and guest on BBC Radio 4 ( Women’s Hour, Fry’s English Delight) and Radio 2 ( Jeremy Vine show) as well as contributing to a podcast series for Mumsnet. Her work with children and families has been filmed for several documentaries.

Rebecca is involved in a number of projects to support parents & neonatal staff and is the author of a brand new self-help book for parents with a baby in neonatal care ‘Not Alone in NICU: A Compassionate Companion for Parents with a Baby in Neonatal Care’. She enjoys collaborating with a range of experts including those with lived experience, building supportive communities and creating restorative spaces.

Rebecca is a mother to 3 boys and writes and talks extensively about parenthood- the joys, challenges and issues around identity, change and the stories we create. She is experienced in helping individuals around times of significant transition such as becoming a parent, midlife changes and bereavement and loss.

She also has a particular interest in working with individuals and teams in high pressure environments, helping them move out of ‘survival mode’ and towards finding meaning, purpose and joy in their work.

Rebecca has published research papers, articles and books in several areas, and lectures in the UK and internationally. She has given talks at Yale University, The UC David Mind Institute in California and at Paediatric conferences in Dubai and Qatar as well as closer to home.

She began her studies completing a BSc in Experimental Psychology at University College London (UCL) and was awared funding by the Medical Research Foundation to pursue a PhD at the UCL Institute of Child Health & Great Ormond Street Hospital. She went on to obtain a Clinical Psychology Doctorate from The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London. She is a Chartered Member and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society ( BPS), Representative for Neonatatology for BPS Perinatal Faculty and a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professionals Council ( HCPC)
